ROBERT “BOBBY” CARLINO
Head Builder and Golf-smith for Prestige Golf.
A “selfmade globe-trotter” who navigated the seas on his many endeavors, born on May 10th of 1947 in Caracas, Venezuela. Second born sibling of six, moved to the United States around 1963. Bobby started in the golf business filling in occasionally for his own brother circa 1989.
A local renowned golf store was his first employer as a “sales rep” which progressed into club repair because a friend of the owner broke a club and no one in the shop knew how to fix it, so Bobby stepped in. As of this, he was promoted to the Doral store as “golf-smith” alongside teaching head pro Teobaldo Perez which he considers to be a mentor and his only teacher. Perez gave golf lessons to Bobby when he was 9 years old in his hometown of Caracas, they were reunited by chance on the Doral store.
“Everything I knew (at the time) came from doing, trial and error” as Bobby always tells us. He attended Mitchell Golf school in Orlando (Orange County National) for a two-week course to “hone” in his skills graduating as the head of class. Aside from that, he has attended various seminars and courses around de United States for renowned brands.
After 25 years Bobby parted ways professionally with such golf store, as he became the primary builder and golf-smith for Prestige Golf. Juan Gomez and Bobby met circa 2000. Bobby’s career with Prestige Golf started in 2015 as Juan beseeched Bobby’s expertise as his main builder after years of flirting with the idea of working together.
His commanding presence, attention to detail and craftsmanship, earned him the nickname “El Capitan (The Captain)” bestowed upon him by Juan. As of today, he has become Juan’s right hand man, an image and an icon to all who know and conform the Prestige family.
History of prestige
Golf has been a huge part of my life and I am very proud about what I have achieved in the past, thus, I would love to share with you all why the name of our company is “Prestige Golf”.
Prestige is defined as: denoting something that arouses respect and admiration. It is often used in an attributive position (i.e. before another noun) in combinations such as, prestige brand, prestige product, prestige suite (in a hotel), prestige location, etc., to denote something of superior quality, especially in marketing and advertising jargon.
Therefore, it was named “Prestige Golf” in order to show that there is quality in our products and service. However, there is another reason for our name. Magic. It all began back in high school when I learned a couple of card tricks and slide of hand techniques. My passion for it grew while living in California when I became a member of a magic ring. One of my best friends in the club, Bill Hunter, who is a professional magician and had performed around the world, taught me more tricks and helped me practice more magic moves.
Back in 2006 a movie called “The Prestige”, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/ came out, which I really recommend you watch.
The movie shows the 3 acts in magic: The first part is “The Pledge,” where they show and tell you what you already know. The second act is “The Turn,” where the magician takes what you see and does a small trick, something to grab your attention. Finally the third, “The Prestige,” is the most shocking part yet; it shows something you have never seen before. It leaves you fooled.
So, it’s the same in golf. Prestige is found in the quality of our products, but also through the magic behind it. Like the third act, we will leave you happy while also being innovative, do something different and new. But of course, the only difference is that in the end we won’t fool you, we will tell you the truth.
We will continue staying at the top of our game and we thank you for your continuous support, loyalty, and trust. I hope to see you in my shop and of course, don’t hesitate to ask me for a trick when you come see me.
